## Guía rápida

| Aspecto | Regla | Ejemplo | Español |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Acuerdo | So / Neither + auxiliar + sujeto; de modo informal Me too / Me neither | I like tea. — So do I. | Me gusta el té. — A mí también. |
| so y not | so o not sustituye una oración después de think, hope y suppose | Is it open? — I think so. | ¿Está abierto? — Creo que sí. |
| one | one o ones sustituye un sustantivo contable | I like the red one. | Me gusta el rojo. |
| do so | do so es formal; do it y do that son informales | I asked him to leave, and he did so. | Le pedí que se fuera y lo hizo. |
| Coordinación | la segunda oración omite el verbo o el auxiliar repetido | Tom likes tea and Ann coffee. | A Tom le gusta el té y a Ana el café. |
| to | to se queda cuando se omite su verbo | Come if you want to. | Ven si quieres. |
| Oración reducida | después de if, when y although se omiten el sujeto y be | If necessary, call me. | Si es necesario, llámame. |
| Sustantivos | those, that of y the latter remiten a un sustantivo anterior | Prices here are higher than those in town. | Los precios aquí son más altos que los de la ciudad. |
| Habla | se omite el comienzo de la oración: el sujeto y el primer auxiliar | Got a minute? | ¿Un minuto? |
| Una oración entera | it, this, that y which remiten a una oración entera | He passed, which surprised us. | Aprobó, lo que nos sorprendió. |
| Respuestas breves | una pregunta con wh- se responde solo con la frase que falta; una oración reducida añade una sola frase | Tom left, and Ann too. | Tom se fue, y Ana también. |
| Trampa | neither y nor ya son negativos, así que el auxiliar queda en forma afirmativa | I can't swim. — Neither can I. | No sé nadar. — Yo tampoco. |

## Visión general

| Recurso | Qué hace | Ejemplo | Español |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Elipsis | omite palabras que el contexto aporta | Which film did you like? — The first. | ¿Qué película te gustó? — La primera. |
| Sustitución | pone una palabra corta en lugar de una expresión más larga | Pass me the blue pen, not the black one. | Pásame el bolígrafo azul, no el negro. |
| Habla y notas | omite el comienzo de la oración | Coming? | ¿Vienes? |

- El oyente o el lector debe poder suplir cada palabra que se omite.
- Una pregunta coletilla repite el auxiliar del mismo modo. Ver Preguntas coletilla.

| have / has | We've finished. | So have they. | They have too. |
| can / will / would | She can swim. | So can I. | I can too. |

- La respuesta repite el auxiliar de la oración; un verbo sin auxiliar toma do, does o did.
- be se responde con be, y la forma concuerda con el sujeto de la respuesta. She's late. — So am I. — Ella llega tarde. — Yo también.
- Me too es informal y no lleva auxiliar. I love this song. — Me too. — Me encanta esta canción. — A mí también.

| have / has | We haven't finished. | Neither have they. | They haven't either. |
| can / will / would | He can't swim. | Neither can I. | I can't either. |
