## Overview

- Only the last verb of a sequence shows tense and politeness; the others take the **て**-form. きのう、朝あさごはんを**食****た****べて**、学校がっこうへ行いきました。 (Yesterday I ate breakfast and went to school.)
- The **て**-form has one shape for every person, number and style of speech.
- The **て**-form is built from the dictionary form; the group of the verb decides the change. See Verb Groups.
- The **て**-form is the base of requests, see Requests: てください, and of actions in progress and states, see ています: Actions and States.
- More patterns with the **て**-form: permission and prohibition, see Permission and Obligation: May, Must.
